Abstract
This study aims to undertake Utilization of Board Games in Teaching Filipino in Grade Four in Cielito Zamora Memorial School. The study answers to the following questions: What is the status of utilization of board games as perceived by the teachers in teaching Filipino Grade 4 in terms of content, quality availability and usability?, What is the level of adaptability of the developed board game based on the standards of LRMDS in terms of effectiveness and efficiency?, What is the level of performance of pupils in the pre-test and post-test mean performance scores after using the board game?, Is there a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean percentage results? and What comments and suggestions do teachers provide after using the board game?. This study adopts a multi-sampling technique such as simple random method in selecting four sections of grade four pupils out of 14 sections of them in Cielito Zamora Memorial School. It also adopts various approaches such as utilizing a customized research administrative form (RAF) to gather information on the "Utilization of Board Games in Teaching Filipino Grade 4. It also utilizes a pre-designed research questionnaire to solicit perception from the respondents on the status of utilization of board games as perceived by the teachers in teaching Filipino grade 4 in terms of content, quality availability and and on the comments and suggestions teachers provide after using the board game. The level of adaptability of the developed board game based on the standards of LRMDS in terms of effectiveness and efficiency is also used. The learner respondents of the study are the 45 pupils of section Jose Rizal, 45 pupils of Andres Bonifacio, 45 pupils of Apolinario Mabini and 41 pupils of Gregorio Del Pilar with a total respondents of 176 pupils. Pupil respondents will answer the pre-test and post-test to know their level of performance. Other respondents of the study are the experts in Filipino like Master Teachers and Filipino School Coordinator and the LRMDS School Coordinator to validate the developed board game material and answer the research questionnaire about the study. The study shows the summary status of utilization of board games as perceived by the teachers in teaching Filipino Grade 4 in terms of the content indicator with a mean of 4.50, quality with a mean of 4.41. availability with a mean of 4.33 and usability with a mean of 4.83. All indicators got an Highly Acceptable adjectival rating. game based on the standards of LRMDS in terms of effectiveness and It also presents the level of adaptability of the developed board LRMDS Assurance Quality Team based on the LRMDS assessment tool efficiency All identified factors considered for the study on the level of adaptability of the Developed Board Game passes the assessment of the with a very satisfactory level. The study presents that level of performance of pupils in the pre-test and post-test mean scores after using the board game recorded an overall increase in mean difference by 12.15 percent. It also presents the summary on the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean percentage results of the four Grade four sections which reveals that all computed z-values of all sections under study exceeds the critical z-values resulting to a rejection of respective hypothesis. This concludes that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean score results of all the four sections of Grade 4 students. In the light of the findings and conclusions, some of the following recommendations are: The Filipino teachers shall continue to utilize board games in teaching Filipino Grade 4; The Filipino teachers shall provide contextualized and localized sets of questions to be answered by the pupils; Add more sets of questions to be answered so that their skills will be developed; Develop questions or sentences that applies real life situations; Questions or sentences should give chance to pupils to express their opinions by allowing them to discuss their answers. With the comments, suggestions and recommendations given by the teachers and Master Teachers, the developed board game material was highly acceptable and recommended to be used in teaching and learning Filipino Grade 4.
