Abstract
The teachers, being the focal figure in education, must be competent

and knowledgeable in order to impart the knowledge they could give to their learners. Good teaching is a very personal manner. Effective teaching is concerned with the learner as a person and with his general development. The teacher must recognize individual differences among his/her learners and adjust instructions that best suit them. Also, using appropriate instructional materials play an important role in achieving the learning

outcome of the students.

Teachers' readiness in teaching and leaming is very important in producing and creating effective teaching and learning methods. Different

teaching strategies used by the teachers play an important role in improving

the academic performance of their learners. Selection of appropriate leaching strategy is essential in catching the interest of the learners in participating and to excel in the subject

The researcher has observed that there are teachers who adopt the said changes and create new teaching styles and practices aligned to the needs of 21" century education. On the other hand, there are still teachers who embrace the old teaching styles they use. Also, she has observed the lack of resources such as leaming materials, new instructional materials, and facilities that are vital in delivering the lesson aligned to the demands of 21 century skills. Vertical alignment of teacher and subject taught is also an issue. Just like the cliché passage, you cannot give what you don't have" teaching a subject that is out of one's specialization is quite difficult and may somehow be a burden for the teacher. Teachers are said to be flexible that they can adapt with this kind of problems and they can find ways how to prepare learning experiences that will fit and suffice to the need of leamers but are these practices enough? Furthermore, the said common teaching practices trigger the curiosity of the researcher about its effectiveness and relationship with the academic performance of the learners. The foregoing issues and problems lead the researcher to come up with the

This study aimed to determine the common teaching practices of 30 teachers and its relationship to the leamers academic performance in Mountain Heights High School in Caloocan City during Academic Year 2017-2018.

This study used descriptive method because of its appropriateness to the topic of this research. This methodology helped the researcher to describe the common teaching practices of the teachers in teaching their subject and how it affects the academic performance of their leamers

Descriptive method proceeds to describe certain phenomena. For this reason, some authorities in research describe it to be "fact finding" or "information gathering" with analytical interpretations.

The researcher used the Purposive Sampling Technique to determine the respondents of the study According to Punel (2010). "Purposive sampling is a process in which the researcher used her good judgment in selecting the respondents who best need and serve the purpose of this study. The researcher had specifically selected the respondents on the

basis of their knowledge or information desired

The respondents of this study were fifty (30) secondary school teachers from Mountain Heights High School during academic year 2017- 2018. Where the academic performance of 10 learners of each teacher will

also be used and they will be randomly seleicted. This study aimed to determine the common teaching practices of 30 teachers and its relationship to the leamers academic performance in Mountain Heights High School in Caloocan City during Academic Year 2017-2018.

Based on the foregoing findings, the researcher came up with the following conclusions: There are different teaching practices employed by the teachers in terms of setting mood, assessing the learning goals, teaching and learning activities; and evaluation/feedback; the academic performance of the learner respondents during Third Quarter has an average weighted mean of 86.78 while the pre finals is 87.92; there is significant relationship between the common teaching practices and academic performance of the learner respondents; there are challenges encountered by the teacher respondents in employing the common teaching practices that hinders the process of learning and a faculty training activities was suggested to further enhance and develop teacher strategies and styles.

From the summary of findings and conclusions given, the following recommendations were formulated: Teachers should attend different trainings/ seminars/workshops to improve their teaching style and align it to the demands of the 21st century; Teachers should conduct benchmarking of best practices of the other teachers; The Master Teachers should provide assistance to the teachers particularly in the different teaching style to address the needs of the learners; The Master Teachers, Department Heads, and School Head should regularly monitor the performance of the teacher through checking of daily lesson plan, conducting observation, and

feed backing; The Master Teachers, Department Heads, and School Head

should conduct trainings about best teaching practices for teachers; The DepEd should provide more training for teachers to improve and develop

their teaching style; and further study should be conducted.
