Abstract
Nowadays, several presentation software tools can produce multimedia materials which often include slides, texts, videos, graphics, sounds, etc.
Currently, Microsoft Power point is one of the popular presentation soft wares, which is widely in the traditional classroom for adopted instruction(Susskind,2008) While using power point lectures, teachers spend less time in writing or maintaining lecture contents in contrast to the way lecturing with writing on a blackboard or whiteboard. Accordingly, teachers can readily highlight key points of teaching materials. At present, the application of manipulatives in several fields is observed as potential to cause success in developing students' skills in reasoning, analyzing and problem-solving ability. Rittle-Johnson et al.(2005) and Holmes (2013) stated that through interaction with manipulatives, students were able to relate concepts and ideas to practical, real-world experiences.
The purpose of this study is to find out if meaningful educational activities and the use of strategic intervention materials might have an impact on student achievement. Using strategic intervention materials as cognitive tools improve the teaching and learning process, and encourage student reflections on retaining the information. The strategic intervention material in science developed by the researcher covered one of the least mastered topics in science three of which were the parts and functions of the ears. Four sections of 433 pupils enrolled in grade three level for school year 2018-2019 were used as subjects
The least mastered topic was identified through item analysis based on the diagnostic test for school year 2018-2019. t-test was employed to determine the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the pupil respondents.
Based on the comparison of the pre-test and post-test mean scores, the performance of the pupils has improved after using the Strategic Intervention Materials in Science 3.
The use of intervention material inside the classroom was an effective tool in the learning process that helped increased the academic performance
