Abstract
Learning to read is probably one of the most important skills that children obtain. Children need to learn to read so they can learn about different subjects and be able to function well in society. In the Philippines, the ability to read and write has become a priority, so any effort to promote literacy by the government, organizations,

or even private individuals is celebrated.

As the former Department of Education's (DepEd) Literacy Coordinating Council OIC, Dina Ocampo (in Cristobal, 2016) said in an interview, literacy empowers a person to interact in his community and realizes his worth, what he can do and eventually make him do things that contribute in sustainable development of his society. Results from the National Statistics Office's 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) showed that 97.5% of the 71.5 million Individuals who are 10 years old and older were literate or could read and write-an increase from the 2000 CPH record of 92.3%.

The Department of Education is determined to bring more children to school. Such complementing Initiatives to fulfill its goal include mother tongue-based multilingual education (MTB-MLE), the Kindergarten Law, and every Child a Reader Program, which mandates all schools, school divisions, and regions to develop Interventions addressing reading in schools based on certain assessment techniques. There is also a focus on the language development including reading literacy in the K-3 curriculum.
