Abstract
This research is a study of eclectic method in teaching beginning reading in grade one using Kartilla, Masio and Marungko approach. The eclectic method is mostly used method because every other theory has strength and limitations of its own. Learning of this method benefits from teaching. The eclectic method is a combination of teaching and learning approaches. This method effectively works for any kind of learners' irrespective of age and standard. Learning is fun and innovative due to the unique nature of learning process. In gathering the data, the researcher made use of reading materials which administered Oral Reading pre test and post test with the reading classification of syllable reader, word reader, phrase reader, sentence reader and non-reader. The respondents consisted of 38 Grade One-Caimito pupils from Grace Park Elementary school Findings revealed that in Oral Reading pre test before using the eclectic technique there are 15 syllable readers, 6 word readers and 15 non-readers. There is no identified as phrase reader and sentence reader While in Oral Reading post test after using the eclectic technique there are 5 phrase readers. 31 sentence readers There is no identified as syllable reader, word reader and non-reader. Comments of the teachers on the develop learning exemplar using Eclectic techniques was useful, effective and suitable for the beginning readers. The teachers suggested that they must have the copy of learning exemplar before the opening of the next school year The following recommendations was presented Adopt the leaming exemplars using Eclectic techniques developed by the researcher to help enhance the reading skills of the beginning readers. A follow-up study may be conducted to evaluate the remedial reading instruction in the selected areas to find out any major changes or progress Parents should always be the number one supporter of their children. They need to give their time, attention, and patience just to guide and help their children on their difficult stage of leaming It is also important that parents should cooperate with the teachers in helping the children acquire or develop their reading skills and good study habits. Pupils need to maximize their reading books and other reading materials rather than facing or playing on their They need a lot of reading materials to enhance their reading skills with different gadget or watching movies, cartoons or any television programs.good comprehension.
