Abstract
This study was undertaken to determine the leadership style of school principals in six public elementary schools in Aromahan District, Division of City Schools, Caloocan City. Specifically, the study soughts answers to the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the principal responsents in terms of following variables?
a. Designation
b. Highest educational attainment
c. Number of years in the service
2. To what extent do the principal respondents manifest their leadership behavior relative to the following management functions?
a. Planning
b. Organizing
c. Directing
a. Assisting
b. Evaluating
3. Is there a significant difference between the perceptions of the principal respondents themselves on their leadership behavior and those of the teacher respondents?
4. What are the leadership strategies employed by the principal respondents?
5. What actions do the principal respondents undertake to resolve leadership problems as regards the following aspects?
a. Superior/Peers
b. Subordinates
c. Work Problems
In line with the foregoing problems, the study pursued the hypothesis that there is no significant difference in the perceptions of the teachers respondents and the principal respondents themselves on their leadership style in terms of different management functions namely; planning, organizing, directing, assisting and evaluating.
The study centered on the six public elementary schools in Aromahan District, Division of City Schools, Caloocan City namely; Kasarinlan elementary school, Kaunlaran elementary school, Maypajo elementary school, Sampalukan Elementary School, Libis Talisay Elementary School and Lerma Elementary School. As regards the sample of the study, a total of sic principals and 71 teachers were involved in the study as respondents. The study made use of the normative-descriptive survey type of research. A questionnaire-checklist was used as the main instrument to gather the data needed in the study. The statistical tools utilized to test the data for analysis and interpretation are the frequency count and percentage, weighted mean, rank and t-test of significant difference.
