Abstract
One of the predicaments of many teachers in teaching is how to motivate the students to learn. This is especially prevalent in the social studies classroom in which students perceive this subject as a boring subject. This is the reason why the DepEd/Curriculum makers need to design a program that should be appropriate to students' interest and needs based on the present classroom situation specifically in public schools. It is in this context that they must consider the setting in the classroom that can may conducive to learning so that quality education could be attained. They must provide a flexible but secure environment that foster exploration, creativity, Inquiry and intellectual challenge to the students.

It has been said that the success of learning depend on how the teacher will impart the lesson to the students. This is to know the content and the pedagogy.

The present scenario in teaching social studies in secondary level has two set of program, the Restructured Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) in third year and fourth year, and the New Secondary Education Curriculum with Design (NSEC UBD) in first year and second year.

In the Restructured Basic Education Curriculum 2002 (RBEC) - its aim is to improve the quality of learning, focusing on the basics of improving literacy and numeracy while inculcating values across learning areas to make it dynamic. New Secondary Education Curriculum 2010 with Design (UBD) Features; learn-focuses one essential understandings, sets high expectations (standards-based), rich and challenging- provides for enrichment programs designed for students' multiple intelligences and, develop readiness and passion for work and lifelong learning.

To improve the status in teaching Social Studies, the teachers, department heads, principals and DepEd must coordinate with each other to design the curriculum that fit the needs of students. Curriculum Planners should visit and observe secondary public schools in the Philippines before they plan a design to cater the needs of Filipino learners. Teachers should maintain the good working performance so that good output will achieve. Giving trainings, seminars and workshop to the social studies teacher is a great help. The foregoing statement serves as the rationale of this study. It aimed to determine the status of social studies teaching in relation to teacher's performance to improve instruction. The study is considered important for a useful output of restructuring the curriculum of social studies subject to uplift the strategies and technique in teaching the subject that should appropriate to students needs.
