Abstract
This study aimed to determine if the use of contextualized and localized activity worksheets would enhance fine motor skills of kindergarten learners during the school year 2018-2019. It utilized a descriptive inferential method employing qualitative and quantitative of quality research using checklist as its data gathering instrument. The respondents of the study were 43 kindergarten public school teachers and seven master teachers in different schools in Caloocan North III. The gathered data from the respondents through the contextualized and localized activity worksheets were tallied, tabulated and interpreted using weighted mean and Z-test.Specifically, it sought to answer the questions related to the following: First, what is the level of fine motor skills of the kindergarten learners based on the ECD result? Second, what contextualized and localized activity sheets maybe developed to enhance the fine motor skills? Third, what is the level of fine motor skills of the kindergarten learners after using the contextualized and localized activity worksheets? Fourth, is there a significant difference in the level of fine motor skills of the kindergarten learners after using the contextualized and localized activity worksheets? And lastly, what are the comments and suggestions of the kindergarten teachers on the developed activity worksheets?
This study made used the descriptive inferential method employing qualitative and quantitative of quality of research in assessing the developed activity worksheets. The descriptive inferential method was deemed appropriate for this study because the research required the gathering of data and information about the effectiveness of the developed activity worksheets based on the Pre and Post ECD checklist. The pretest was administered prior to the treatment and the post test was given after the execution of the research. After having gathered the needed data of the study, the following findings were obtained. 1) As regards the level of fine motor skills of the kindergarten leamers based on the Pre ECD result as assessed by the teachers, the majority of the fine motor skill indicators fell under Delayed category. 2) the use of the contextualized and localized activity worksheets inside the classroom was an effective tool in the learning process that would help improve the skills performance of the learners as revealed by the result of the pretest and post test scores. It will strengthen the fine motor skills of the learners. 3) the level of fine motor skills of the kindergarten learners based on the ECD result as assessed by the teachers, the majority of the fine motor skill indicators fall under Advance (A) category which means that the kindergarten learner, understand the fine motor skills direction and they are able to answer the activity sheets. From the pre ECD and post ECD assessment result, an increase of 1.88 points was obtained in favor of the post ECD which implies that the develop worksheet activity has been effective for the development on the fine motor skill of the kindergarten learners. 4) there was a significant difference between the pretest and post test scores of the kindergarten learners after using the contextualized and localized activity worksheets, since the computed z-test value is less than z-critical value the null hypothesis is rejected which denotes that the develop contextualized and localized activityworksheet have 1) Significant delay, 2) Delayed, 3) Moderately Advanced, 4) Advanced and 5) Highly Advance which helps in uplifting the fine motor skills of the kindergarten learners and can be applied to the other learners as well.
Furthermore, on the comments and suggestions of the kindergarten teachers on the contextualized and localized activity worksheets, there were lots of positive comments and encouraging suggestions given as to the developed, contextualized and localized activity sheets which show that the teacher respondents consider it as a tool for developing fine motor skills of the kindergarten learners.
The researcher hereby recommends the utilization of this investigation to the Schools Division covered in this study. Further, a parallel study should be pursued to justify the findings of this research work. Finally, it is recommended that this piece of work be placed in the University Library for reference purposes.
