Abstract
The importance of mathematics in the life of an individual cannot be emphasized. It is the medium in which men make advances in life. Mathematics helps us find the right way to solve In recognition of the vital role of mathematics in nation building, the elementary schools as agents of development are doing its best to develop in our school children sound and lasting understanding of the basic mathematical concepts that will be helpful to them as they pursue higher educational endeavors. Competence in Mathematics is increasingly important in many professions. It is more important to remember that this competence draws on more than just the ability to calculate answers efficiently. It also encompasses problem solving, communicating about mathematical concepts, reasoning and establishing proof, and representing information in different forms. Making connections among these skills and concepts both in mathematics and in other subjects is something students are more frequently asked to dc, both in the classroom setting, and later in the workplace.

For the past few years, the result of the National Achievement Test (NAT) especially in Mathematics, English and Science is continuously declining in the Division of City Schools Caloocan particularly in Caloocan North area which includes Bagong Silang where Pag-asa Elementary School is located. At first the poor performance of pupils was blamed to the teachers but after a year of continuous evaluation by the DepEd supervisors from the Division or Caloocan and even from the National Capital Region, they found out that the schools performing poor in NAT are schools with three shifting. Three shifting means all the subject should be taught within four (4) hours and this includes the recess and coming in and going
out of pupils in the classroom during the start and end of each shift. As a result, each subject should be taught in a very limited time making the pacing of each subject very difficult for students.
