Abstract
In school, science is an interesting subject for some as it can explain everything scientifically such as the beginning of life, the evolution of mankind, life process of plants and animals, the materials being used by men, the earth, and the heavenly bodies, etc. However, there are pupils who still find science difficult and boring. Some of the factors that create difficulty in learning science is due to the following: science is not an easy subject, it is not easy to understand due to technical vocabulary terms involve, science is very scientific topic s for some people are being beyond their capabilities and science has nothing to do with people's personal lives. Basically, not all people appreciate the importance of science. Due to different reasons, some of the pupils do not enjoy studying science that resulted to a low and poor academic performance in the subject. Therefore, the need for teaching strategies, new materials and advancement in teaching science is essential to develop the learning skills and abilities of the pupils. Llano elementary school where the researcher teaches is not exempted from the problem of low academic performance in science and lack of instructional materials. Learning materials like books, encyclopedias, and other reference materials provided the government is not sufficient, unavailable and outdated to meet the needs of the pupils. One of the resources needed in the classroom for a science subject is the use of technology-based instructional materials that will focus on science topics, concept, and skills which were not mastered in the slow learners. In view of this, the need to develop and procedure teaching materials like projectors, laptops and WIFI connection could not be neglected as it contributes to the improvement of the pupils in Science. By this, the researcher thought of using technology-based instruction to supplement the learning needs of the pupils. The researcher has seen pupils engaged with the change of teaching-learning from the traditional method of instruction by their teacher to technology-based instruction. There are advantages but there are also disadvantages on using them. Some pupils who previously took down notes while the teacher is discussing became lazy because of technology, the pupils will just record instead the lesson and will not listen anymore to the teachers and will do something else. Some pupils instead of writing their notes and assignment in notebooks and papers will take pictures instead of what is written on the board on flash on the projector screen, form some will just request to save the discussion their USB. Pupils become more dependent on teacher's power point instead of doing their own lessons. Based on the aforementioned issues the researcher was challenged to conduct the study entitled, EFFECTIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY-BASED INTSRUCTION IN TEACHJING SCIENCE.
