Abstract
An effective instructional material is one of the necessities and most

significant teaching- learning tool for enhancing the academic performance of the students. A material that tickles the mind of the learner that invites them to engage in a classroom discussion. Teachers need to be innovative and creative in helping students learn at its best.

Since Science is a subject which involves exploration for the learners; learning comes from experiential events, sudden discoveries, hands-on applications and daily observations.

Thus, Learning is the fruit of the students' experiences through participating and engaging in a learning process with differentiated approach offered by their teacher. With this research study, the researcher aims to let every individual leamers record their daily activities, memories and moments through Sci-Diary (short term for Science Diary) as their learning tool.

The study utilized both descriptive method and experimental method in line with the concern of this research to determine the effectiveness of the use of Sci Diary as a learning tool to enhance academic performance. It involved 121 respondents consisting of 21 Science teachers and 100 students of Maypajo and Kasarinlan High School, School Year 2018-2019 in Aromar District of Caloocan City

At the start of the process, science teachers and grade eight (8) students selected through purposive sampling and were given the instrument for them to answer.

After having gathered the data, they were tallied, tabulated and statistically treated using simple mean percentage score to determine the what is the performance of the control and experimental grade eight(8) students in Science based on the Pre-Test and Post-Test, the researcher used the Evaluation Rating Sheet for Print Material of Learning Resources Management and Development System (LRMDS) as the main instrument for teacher- respondents of the study to identify what is the level of acceptability of the developed Sci Diary. The t-test was also used to determine the significant difference in the performance of the two groups of respondents.

This study found out that the performance of the respondents for experimental group got the pre-test mean percentage score (MPS) of 31.76% and after the implementation of using Sci Diary the results of their post-test was 59.2% which shows that Sci Diary improved and enhanced the student's academic performance. It was also found out there were significant difference between the posttest mean scores of the control and experimental group.

Based on the findings the following suggestions and recommendations are: the teachers and the students should collaborate more for the effective use of Sci- Diary as a learning tool, there must be space where students' could write the applications of the concepts they learned to real life situations, add a space for any questions, queries and clarification of concept about the lesson, the Division of Caloocan must see it that the use of Sci Diary will be evaluated and monitored since it causes improvement and enhance in the level of understanding of the students.
